Choose Your Badminton Racket Wisely

Raise your hands if you are new in the world of badminton and you still have a lot to learn or you want to know more about badminton that’s why you are here in the first place. Well today we will be talking about the importance of having your own badminton racket and on why do you need to be very careful and wise in choosing your weapon in the badminton game.

We cover a lot of badminton stuffs and one of the never ending topic falls down to the badminton rackets because maybe people tend to forget that the perfect racket for them is the one that they really want it all falls on what do you really like and feel perfect.

We don’t want every new players do this because they have this mentality and they often do the following.

Buying the most expensive racket – It doesn’t guarantee you that you’ll have the perfect one because for example you were able to buy an advanced racket with a string tension that’s too strong and then when it comes to game you can’t really use it because you can’t control your shots, then it’s useless.

Asking what the pros and their favorite player is using. Well it is obvious that if it’s working well on your idol it has a lot of time in the gym and practice so don’t be surprised if you can’t use it like your idol.

As a result of this mistakes players end up unsatisfied with their badminton rackets and worst it might lead them to injuries down the line.

So when choosing a badminton racket make sure that you were able to see and know the difference of this things first;

Overall Weight

In every aspects of life we may know that heavier ones will give you more power because in physics Force = Mass x Acceleration so it is same with the badminton rackets. So if you lack in power and you want to add more on that you may choose a heavier racket.

Today, huge badminton company are making badminton rackets lighter because we can’t argue with speed and agility can really dominate the game. But when having a heavier or a lighter racket try to practice and get a hold of it first before jumping right away playing with it. You need to train with those rackets first, workout the wrist and forearm muscles.

Grip Size

This one is also important. Many players are looking for comfort or design and we say that you should look after the comfort because for example you chose the bulkiest grip because of the comfort but you can’t get a good hold with your racket then it is useless.

Here are the following grip sizes;
G1: 4 in
G2: 3.75 in
G3: 3.5 in
G4: 3.25 in
G5: 3 in
G6: 2.75 in

If you don’t know which size to get or you seem to be comfortable to all the sizes then we recommend that you get the smallest grip size available as you can always add on an over grip to make it bigger it you find it necessary.

Match Types

Is it for Singles or for Doubles? One more aspect to consider is that are you a single player or a doubles badminton player because it is also important knowing that a single player will have to cover the whole court to be able to play but for doubles they have a strategy on who covers what. For example, if you are mostly a single player you would want to lean towards more head heavy rackets because in a singles match it is not as fast paced as the doubles, you may have more time to react to shots and therefore having a heavier weapon will not be a problem.

A doubles player may look for an even balanced racket or head light for this will keep you in a fast paced game and you will have no problem swinging your racket because of its weight and you can react to shots faster.
