How to Choose a Badminton Racket

Maybe one of the most common and hardest question that badminton players will ask and try to find an answer is how to choose a badminton racket. So here are some of the factors that you need to consider and know before buying a Badminton Racket.

BRANDS

A lot of good badminton brands are in the market, such as Yonex, Wilson, Victor, Carlton, Head, etc. Among all the brands we all know that Yonex is the most sought after and well established brand internationally. Even though Yonex badminton rackets are generally more expensive than others it is also the one that has a lot of technology and trusted when it comes to quality of product. Good quality comes with good price for most cases but Yonex also have affordable rackets that you can enjoy. Other brands are almost as good as Yonex but with lower price.

WEIGHT

A lot of badminton players are being misled by the heavier the racket the powerful the smashes are, the power of the badminton racket does not solely depend on the weight. Do not forget about the one swinging the rackets. Here’s a good formula to understand more of the power generated from a racket.

[Racket head speed x Racket head weight = POWER]

If you want to obtain the optimum power, you need to be able to generate maximum racket head speed with a given weight of racket. Generating a racket head speed depends on your muscles and correct techniques. But you also need to take into consideration the strength of your body if you have what it takes to smash a shuttlecock at a certain level.

STRINGS

A professional player’s string tension is stronger than 26lbs because they already developed a good wrist control and a better shot control that utilizes the power of the badminton racket a higher tension gives you a better control and power but you should be very careful for if your level of play isn’t on that level yet you might stress yourself but beginners and intermediate players is advised to use a badminton string tension between 23-26lbs.

GRIPS

With grips it comes with three types, G3, G4 and G5. The largest is the G3 and most of the badminton rackets that came from Europe have this G3 grip size. If you wanted to customize your own grip size it is best to buy badminton rackets from Asian markets for they are in G4 in that way you can just add your favorite grip to your rackets to increase the grip size without taking the original grips off.

If you are finding the best racket for you it is really something personal because you might really want to feel a racket that would fit your style and game play and taken into consideration also your type of physical build and your way of swinging and smashing the racket.
